2026 Macleay Valley Fashion Show - update

Preparing for the 2026 Macleay Valley Fashion Show has been a mix of excitement, pressure, and creativity.

I wanted to make a collection that reflects my connection to Scandinavia and zero-waste designed patterns. Each piece in this collection is designed to tell a story — inspired by Birgitta Helmersson’s Zero waste designs, the use of textile scraps and creating a balance between structure and freedom.

The inspiration for this collection starts with the fabric that I discover in secondhand shops. Each material carries its own quality, story and potential. With the fabric in my hand, I begin to imagine how I can transform it and make it into a wearable piece.

The design process starts with rough sketches and mood boards that help me define the overall direction of the collection. With a focus on simple lines, boxy shapes and the aim to limit textile waste; I experimented with what I have, combined textile pieces and led the design evolve from there.

A few key pieces define the identity of this collection. One of my favourites is a boxy top, covered in cut out small circles and hand-stitched onto the garment. It is paired with a flowing white skirt, together they show how we can use textile waste to create new garments. Another standout piece is a tablecloth that has been transformed to a skirt; by simply cutting a hole in the middle it has been transformed into a skirt.

I look forward to seeing these designs come to life on the runway on June 13. This will be a highlight on this journey. The 2026 Macleay Valley Fashion show will showcase the collection in a way that underlines movement, styling, and the personality behind each piece. I’m incredibly excited to finally share this work with an audience.
