Hi, I’m Helene Power, the founder and maker behind Slowstitch.
I thought it was time to properly introduce myself and share a little more about the person behind Slowstitch — what brought me here, where the idea began, and why I’m so passionate about creating clothing differently.
I grew up in Denmark, a country known for its exceptional contribution to furniture, ceramics, arts and craftsmanship. From there I went on to complete a BA (Hons) 3D Design in Ceramics/ Drawing and later a MA in Design Management at the University of Southern Denmark.
The collage below is a collection of ceramics pieces that I made as part of my degree in the UK. A selection of the images are taken in situ near the Mundi Mundi lookout outback NSW.
How did I end up in Australia you may wonder? Well it was one of those love stories, I was young followed my dreams and moved to Australia in the year 2000. One of the adventures I had with my ex-husband was purchasing a motel in Broken Hill. I have been fascinated by the outback, its light and red soil. A landscape so different to Denmark.

Moving forward to today; I now live on the NSW Mid North Coast, enjoying the slow paced living the cost is known for. For the last two years I have been dedicating my time to develop my sustainable fashion brand Slowstitch. I didn’t start with a business plan, it came from a love of textiles, a curiosity for one-of-a-kind garments and an urge to extend the life of textiles that has a story.

Over the period I have sold over 60 one-of-a-kind garments, primarily at Kaleidoscope Coffs Central, What remains - The Art of Slowstitch (an exhibition I hosted) and my website. I am truly grateful to all who have purchased one of my garments, given me feedback and followed my progress online. Below is a selection of the sold garments.
