What makes ‘slowstitch.au' a Sustainable Fashion label?

Sustainability has become one of fashion’s biggest conversations — and challenges.

With so many brands making ‘green’ claims, it can be hard to know who’s truly walking the talk.

At slowstitch.au, sustainability isn’t a trend - it’s the foundation of everything I do. Here’s what makes my label genuinely sustainable, transparent, and true to its purpose.

Environmentally friendly materials

I use environment friendly materials in the sense that every piece I make is made using existing fabrics. I source my fabric from local op-sops, dead-stock fabric from designers and donations from fellow makers who share their leftover remnants. By giving these fabric a second life, I help reduce waste and celebrate the beauty of reuse.

Reducing waste, one stitch at a time

I only use fabric that has already had a life - whether that’s a vintage tablecloth, a discarded roll of fabric, or a forgotten remnant. If I see a piece where I am not too sure of the type of material I will still use it rather than put it to waste.

Any offcuts from my own projects are carefully saved for smaller creations like bags, patchwork pieces, or accessories. Nothing goes to waste if i can help it-every scrap has potential.

Contributing to a Circular Economy

slowstitch.au is proudly part of the circular fashion movement. By reusing existing materials, up cycling old textiles, and sourcing dead-stock fabric, I help keep valuable resources in circulation- and out of landfill,

Each garment is thoughtfully designed to honour the fabrics history while giving it a new story.

Social responsibility & authenticity

I’m a one-woman label- every piece is handmade by me in my home studio in Coffs Harbour, on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

From sourcing to sewing, I’m involved in every step of the process. My designs are shaped by the materials I find-the patterns, textures, and stories woven into the fabric itself.

Authenticity isn’t about perfection- its about being real, consistent, and willing to evolve. Each garment reflects that belief: one-of-a-kind, imperfectly beautiful, and made with care.
